Overlook Hospital
Summit, New Jersey
Overlook Hospital is the first center in the New York City metropolitan
area and one of only twelve hospitals nationwide to offer the CyberKnife,
a revolutionary radiosurgical device that uses a combination of robotics
and image-guidance technology to deliver precisely targeted doses
of radiation for the treatment of tumors and lesions in the brain,
neck and spine. When it came time to build an addition to the hospital
and install this sophisticated equipment, Overlook Hospital turned
to Phoenix Medical Construction.
The project, which was completed in June 2004, involved a 4,000 square
foot reinforced concrete radiation therapy vault and building addition.
The vault was built "below-grade" with four-foot thick concrete
walls and roof in order to provide radiation shielding. The majority
of the excavation was made in granite rock.
The project was valued at $1,829,000. The project architect was
Buckl Architects of Easton, PA.
